Many people have pets. Pets are those tame, adorable animals we take care at home or somewhere else. Some used pets as pastime and leisure. Others make them as friends or companion. Some treat them as useless thrashes but we treat pets as family. One example of it is Gong Gong.
Ever since my brother and I were young, we were close to animals especially cats. We have taken care countless numbers of animals. Most of them were those that live in streets and were not tamed. We did think our mission was to tame and love them. There was one time we called us, my brother and me, animal tamers. It just so happen that animals and mostly cats go near us as if they knew that they are safe with us. However, there was one big problem before. THAT WAS MY MOTHER. Whenever we bring those animals at home, she immediately complained and scolded us. She said that it’s just a waste of money and time. Then, we have no choice but to let those poor animals loose again. Some cats are too tamed and dependent to us that they’re afraid to go and whenever we threw them outside, they just come back again and again. Of course, my mother complained again and again. Those were the things that happened in the past until Gong Gong came.
We don’t know what is in Gong Gong. He’s the special one because he is the only one who has convinced my mom that having a pet cat is not such a bad idea. He is very blessed because he is the only cat, from hundreds of them that we encountered, which received the care, the love and the affection of my mother. We don’t know what happened and what made mom like him, all we know was that he was just a simple cat that is destined to live and be a part of the family but aren’t you wondering how we met him?
Well, Our destiny crossed when my brother saw him lazily lying near one of our neighbor’s house. Our usual instinct when we see cats is that we go closer and if it is not tame we try to convince them that we are not harmful but since he was near our neighbor’s house he, my brother, cannot go near so he just looked at the cat and then walked home. By the way, he was from my grand mother’s house because we often visit her during summer days and that time, for as far as I could remember, it was the summer before I go to Grade Six. So, when he arrived home, he immediately told me that he saw a new kitten because Gong Gong was still a kitten at that time. He often tell me when he sees kittens because I am the one who have more guts in bringing kittens at home but he is the one who catch them though. Then, when he walked back again to that neighbor’s house, the kitten was not there already. So, he told me again. Days after that incident, my mother asked us to bring loam soil from the field near us. She was planting plants like roses, San Francisco, and Saluag and since the soil in our house is dry and unhealthy, we get soil from the field or we call in vernacular as “daruhan”. Now, when we get there, my brother saw Gong Gong so we took him, placed him in the bucket of soil we took so that mom won’t notice when we go back home. Then, that afternoon, we went to the church so that was Sunday and that was the first time my mother saw Gong Gong.
We use to call him “Budlat” before cause his eyes were big before but as time passed he grew cute and healthy and he has a very cute, red nose by the way…J
Now, he is still here. We are feeding him with kilos of fishes weekly. Fresh fish, I tell you. He may cost that much but it doesn’t matter cause we love him.
So much with me, now let me ask you, do you also have pets like what I have?
